Zirconium Silicate Description

Zirconium silicate is a synthetic silicate material with the chemical formula ZrSiO4. It is typically produced from natural zircon sand (whose main component is zirconium silicate) through high-temperature calcination, purification, and refining to obtain a higher purity, more stable, and finer powder product.

It is an extremely excellent ceramic opacifier, whitening agent, and refractory material.  It exhibits exceptional chemical stability at high temperatures and is a key basic raw material in the ceramics, foundry, and refractory industries.

Product Features

Zirconium Silicate Characteristics

1. High Refractive Index: With a refractive index of 1.93-2.04, it is significantly higher than ceramic bodies and ordinary glazes. This gives it strong opacity (opacifying ability) and whitening effect, effectively masking the color of the ceramic body.

2. Excellent Chemical Stability: It remains stable in high-temperature glazes (usually above 1200ºC) and does not easily react with other components in the glaze, preventing glaze defects.

3. High Melting Point and Thermal Stability: It has a high melting point of 2550ºC, a low coefficient of thermal expansion, good thermal shock resistance, and excellent high-temperature performance.

4. High Hardness and Wear Resistance: With a Mohs hardness of 7.5, it provides the product with good wear resistance.

5. Corrosion Resistance: It is resistant to corrosion from various acids, bases, and molten glass and metals.
