Product Description

Carbon brick is a high temperature resistant neutral refractory product made of carbon as raw material and adding an appropriate amount of binder.

The raw materials of carbon bricks include anthracite, coke and graphite, as well as binders such as pitch, tar and anthracene oil. Anthracite has less volatile matter and dense structure. When producing carbon bricks, it is mostly used as aggregate, metallurgical coke (coal char) is added, and asphalt is used as binder.

Carbon brick properties
The production process of carbon bricks is roughly similar to other refractory bricks, but carbon must be prevented from oxidizing at high temperatures, so the firing of raw materials and the firing of products must be carried out in a reducing atmosphere. Anthracite should be roasted before use to remove volatiles, sulfur and moisture, and to improve the volume stability, mechanical strength and oxidation resistance of anthracite. The coke should be dried first to avoid forming difficulties and cracking of the products during the firing process due to high moisture content. The asphalt should be melted and dehydrated first, so that its moisture content is less than 0.2%, and the dehydration temperature should be 120~160ºC.

The carbon brick ingredients are calcined granular anthracite as the aggregate, and its particle size depends on the size of the product: 8~12 mm for large bricks and 4~6 mm for small bricks. Anthracite is added at about 60%. The coke is added as fine powder, and the content of which the particle size is less than 88 microns should reach about 70%. The amount of binder added to blast furnace carbon bricks is usually 15-20%. In order to prevent oxidation, coke powder or coal powder is generally used as a protective filler when the brick body is fired. The firing temperature is 1300~1450ºC, the holding time is about 20 hours, and the total firing time is about 240~420 hours. Carbon bricks come out of the kiln at high temperature and are easy to catch fire.
