Silicon carbide/Carborundum Introduction

Silicon carbide, exceedingly hard, synthetically produced crystalline compound of silicon and carbon.Its chemical formula is SiC. 

The only compound of silicon and carbon is silicon carbide (SiC),carborundum.Silicon carbide does occur naturally as the mineral moissanite, but this is extremely rare.

However, it has been mass produced in powder form for use as an abrasive since 1983. It has been an important material for sandpapers, grinding wheels, and cutting tools.

2.High hardness with Mohs 9.2-9.3. Even at 2000ºC, it's still get high strength.
